On the previous slide, every input was fully on. Its value was 1.
But signals don't have to be all-or-nothing. A neuron can send a weaker signal, 0.2, or 0.6, or anything in between.
Here we're using numbers between 0 and 1 because they are easy to read. The exact range is not the point. The point is that signals can be stronger or weaker.
That changes the formula. Each connection contributes: signal × weight. Drag the neurons or weight labels to see the calculation update live.
