Just the shape

If the last few slides felt huge, they were supposed to.

You do not need to remember greedy search, exhaustive search, or the chess numbers. The important part is simpler: search can work beautifully on small problems, then collapse when the number of paths gets too large.

That is the idea to keep. Early AI was not foolish. It had found a real tool, then mistook that tool for a whole solution.
