The thread from here to there
You started with a transistor. A switch — on or off.
From switches you built logic gates. From logic gates, arithmetic and memory. From arithmetic and memory, programs. From programs, early attempts at intelligence, and failure, and new attempts, and more failure, and slow progress.
From that progress: a neuron. A perceptron. Backpropagation. Deep networks. GPUs. A dataset of a million images. A model that could suddenly see.
And then: a way to represent words as positions in space. A mechanism to let every word attend to every other word. An architecture that scaled. Models trained on most of what humanity has written.
A model that, token by token, completes text — and in doing so, translates, reasons, codes, creates, explains.
The thread is unbroken. There's no magic. Just simple rules, repeated at enormous scale, with consequences no one fully predicted.
What you do with that understanding is up to you.
