Bits can be instructions

A bit pattern can also tell a computer what to do.

One pattern might mean add two numbers. Another might mean move a number. A third might mean compare two numbers.

A command like this is called an instruction.

Put instructions in order and you have a program.

The program may feel separate from the letters and pictures it works with. Inside the computer, both are represented with bit patterns.
