The memory was in the ledger

The Oracle could speak as if she remembered Elara.

But before each answer, the Scribe added the latest exchange to his ledger. Then he sent a fresh copy up the mountain.

The Translator changed the language of each message. The temple made the meeting possible. Neither removed the Oracle's curse.

The apparent memory came from the Scribe preserving the past and the Courier carrying it forward.

The Oracle carried no conversation from one visit to the next. She could only read what the Scribe sent that time.
