Who gets the learned values?

Some model makers keep the parameter files on their own computers. People can use the model through an app or an , but cannot download the learned values. These are closed weights.

Others release the parameter files. People can download the learned values and run them with a compatible program. These are open weights.

Open weights are sometimes described as . The terms are not identical. Releasing the weights does not necessarily reveal the training data, training code, or full process that produced them.

The practical question is simpler. Can you obtain the learned values, or can you only send requests to someone else's copy?
