The real switch

The switch you just tried is a useful picture. It is not what sits inside a chip.

The real part is called a . Nothing clicks or moves inside it.

Instead, one electrical signal acts as the control. When the control is off, it blocks a second signal. When the control is on, the second signal can pass.

Try the control. The real mechanism is different from a wall switch, but it gives the computer the same two possibilities: block or pass.
